About Us

In 2017, The Garvan Weizmann Centre for Cellular Genomics (GWCCG) was formed, bringing together the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and The Weizmann Institute of Science to build Australia’s first Centre for Cellular Genomics.

The Garvan and the Weizmann Institutes have harnessed their synergistic strengths (in cytometry, genomics, informatics, and data visualisation) to allow cellular and single cell genomics to become routine tools for clinical and scientific analysis of many disease states. The focus of GWCCG is to both support and conduct medical research using cellular genomics techniques.

 

The Opportunity

The Group Leader in Single Cell Technology Development is responsible for coordinating research activities and technology development of the Research Support team in delivering, organizing and maintaining the research support in GWCCG. The role will involve the coordination and delivery of research support for large scale research programs in Immunology, Oncology, and disease modelling with Stem Cells. In incumbent will be expected to support Centre led funding applications and contribute to independent research to be published in peer-reviewed journals. The GWCCG Group Leader in Single Cell Technology Development reports directly to the Head of GWCCG.:

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Supervising the computational and molecular research and technical staff in the Research Support and Development group on a daily basis which includes troubleshooting failed experiments and/or human errors
  • Advising the Head of GWCCG in strategically planning major research initiatives and programs
  • Intellectually contributing to primary research output of the research initiatives and programs
  • Communicating with affiliated researchers and Lab heads in regards to new projects, technology development and research programs
  • Planning, designing and choosing of advertising strategies and materials for GWCCG
  • Assisting researchers, staff and students in experimental setup and procedural questions
  • Making recommendations to the Head of GWCCG about new technology, improvements to existing workflows, establishing new technology or assays and purchasing of new equipment
  • Representing GWCCG on all relevant conferences, seminars and workshops
  • All staff are required to comply with Garvan’s Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy and work in accordance with the WHS management system at all times

 

About You

 You will have the following key skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of Cellular genomics and single cell sequencing technology
  • Strong background in both the computational, molecular, and flow cytometry aspects of cellular genomics
  • Demonstrated research excellence through peer-reviewed publications and grants
  • Prior experience in training, supervising, performance reviewing of researchers and technical staff
  • Prior experience in presentation of data & services on conferences and industry relevant congregations
  • Strategic thinker with strong decision-making ability
  • Critical thinking ability with innovative approach to problem solving
  • Strong on eye for details and highly developed organisational abilities
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
