The Opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Research Ethics Administrative Officer to join our Research Ethics, Compliance and Governance office (RECG). Reporting to the Executive Officer of RECG, the Administrative Officer will provide administrative support to assist with the smooth operation of the RECG office and Garvan/St Vincent’s Animal Ethics Committee (AEC). AEC is the committee established by the Garvan Board of Directors for reviewing and overseeing ethical, welfare and compliance aspects of animal usage in research and teaching at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, St Vincent’s Hospital, The Kinghorn Cancer Centre and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
The position is offered full-time on a 1-year fixed term in the first instance, with the possibility of conversion to permanent employment for the right candidate.
About You
You will have the following key skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in biological, medical or allied health sciences
- Previous administration and clerical experience gained in an office environment
- Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Some experience in intranet maintenance
- Experience in meeting minutes taking and reporting
- Good communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Basic knowledge of scientific/medical terminology would be advantageous
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- A mature, reliable and professional approach
- Ability and motivation to develop new skills and to implement new administrative techniques
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Problem solving abilities
- Strong commitment to quality and excellent attention to detail
- Good time management skills and capable of prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines
