The Opportunity

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced and commercially astute Chief Technology Officer to provide leadership of the Information Technology (IT) department, with a mandate to champion and implement an integrated technological approach across the whole organisation. The CIO will ensure the appropriate level of engagement and governance in IT service, application development and project delivery.  

 

Key to the success of the position will be in developing and implementing a robust IT strategy that directly contributes to Garvan’s vision and goals with a major focus on transforming and bringing business discipline to the way IT is used within the organisation.

 

The successful candidate will possess the following key skills and attributes:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree computer science or equivalent with qualifications in IT service management and project management
  • Strong experience leading, motivating, inspiring and engaging multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience leading and driving transformational change
  • Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the big picture and develop strategic and operational plans that respond to existing and emerging needs of the organisation
  • Strategic thinking and execution with the ability to create a sense of direction
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects of diverse scopes in a cross-functional environment
  • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies and trends, technology directions and strategic application to business needs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms
