The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for Technician to join our Histopathology Laboratory as part of the Cancer Division. The Technical Officer will support the Manager of the Cancer Histology Facility by, accessioning and filing of clinical specimens, processing, embedding, microtomy and basic section staining, Immunohistochemistry, preparation of stock reagents / solutions, blood processing; as well as the general maintenance of the Cancer Histopathology Facility.

To be considered for this position, you will possess the following key skills and attributes:

  • TAFE qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrate ability to work with limited supervision
  • Well-developed planning and organising/work management abilities
  • A strong commitment to quality and detail
  • Well-developed communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team/collaborative environment
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrate competency in histological techniques
  • Experience in the cutting and handling of paraffin sections (desirable)
  • Experience in interpreting routine staining morphology (desirable)
