Genetic Counsellor Clinical Genomics – Genome.One

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Genetic Counsellor to join the newly established clinical genomics service within Genome.One (a wholly owned subsidiary of Garvan). This position is a full time appointment for a 2-year period with a possibility of further extension. The Genetic Counsellor will work with the clinical genomics team in the delivery of clinical genetic counselling services at Genome.One.

The successful candidate will possess the following key skills and attributes:

An undergraduate degree in a nursing or non-medical discipline
Post graduate qualification in genetic Counselling or be Board Eligible in accordance with the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (or working towards certification)
Previous experience working as a genetic counsellor
Intake/triage of new referrals,
Co-ordinate clinics in consultation with administrative assistants, Clinical Geneticist and Consultant Genetic Counsellor
Obtain pre-clinic information including pedigree and relevant existing investigations
Provide genetic counselling (telephone and face to face) at the Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics (Genome.One) including obtaining informed consent for genomic testing.
Coordinate collection of appropriate blood/tissue samples.
Post clinic follow up as required including on referral
Facilitate genetic counselling and testing for other family members as required
Coordinate weekly genomic MDT,
Recruit patient to appropriate research studies
Develop clinical genetic protocols in consultation with the clinical/genomic and counselling leads;
Supervise junior genetic counsellors
