The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a talented Research Assistant to join the Transcriptomic Research Group, to investigate the complexity of human gene expression and its contribution towards disease. The focus of this position will be to help in the production of synthetic standards for genomic and transcriptomic sequencing technologies.

Skills & Experience required for this role

  • First class honours or a Research Masters in Medical Science or related discipline
  • Experience in molecular biology, genomics and next-generation sequencing
  • Critical thinking skills required for interpretations of results and troubleshooting
  • Strong commitment to quality
  • Excellent communication skills for written reporting and presentation
  • Capacity to work co-operatively with other team members
  • Demonstrate good organisational and administrative skills
  • Be well organised and a good time manager

About the Project:

Our laboratory has recently developed a wide range of synthetic standards for use in genome, RNA and other next-generation sequencing applications (see Hardwick et al., Nature Methods (2016) and Deveson et; al., Nature Methods (2016) for further reading). We are currently seeking a Research Assistant to join the team to help in the production of synthetic standards for genomic and transcriptomic sequencing technologies. Specific responsibilities will be the development and production of synthetic standards, their use in a range of experimental applications, and administering research collaborations with both national and internal research organisations.
