Project Coordinator - Prostate Cancer and Bone Metastasis Research

The opportunity

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Project Coordinator to provide high level administrative support to a multidisciplinary research program as part of the Osteoporosis and Bone Biology Division. The purpose of this newly created position will be to coordinate the day-to-day, as well as longer-term, activities of the consortium by ensuring effective communication and collaboration between the partners, developing public engagement activities and dealing with administrative issues. This position will report to the Head of Osteoporosis and Bone Biology Division; and will be offered on a part-time basis 3 days per week.

 

About the Research

The Garvan has been awarded a major Program Grant from Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia (PCFA) in conjunction with Movember. This grant brings together a new collaborative PCa research consortium dedicated to addressing the mechanisms and ultimately the treatment of Prostate Cancer. The consortium includes highly experienced PCA investigators, as well as experts from other fields including Bone Biology, Breast Cancer Research and Genomics, in Australia (Melbourne and Sydney), the USA and Europe.

To be successful in this position, you will be an analytical thinker with a background in Molecular Biology who is motivated by being part of the dynamic and innovative culture of Garvan. You will be strong collaborator who thrives in a culture of discovery and empowerment. You will also possess the following key skills and attributes:

 

  • Sc, M.Sc or PHD in Molecular Biology or relevant area
  • Experience in Bone or Cancer related research; and animal studies
  • Experience working in a similar position within the clinical research or academic environment
  • Proven experience writing reports and grants in a clinical research environment (essential)
  • Excellent time management skills, with evidence of an ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to coordinate and take active part in group discussions and meetings with senior members of the research team
  • Effective presentation skills to scientists and the lay public and experience of maintaining a website
  • Previous experience or knowledge of research funding organisations such as the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) or the Australian Research Council would be advantageous.
