The opportunity:

An opportunity now exists for a talented and experienced fundraiser to join the Garvan Research Foundation. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this position is responsible for the growth of Garvan Research Foundation’s mass fundraising activities across a range of income channels; and the delivery of an existing 5-year strategic plan.

 

These channels include responsibility for the Foundation’s acquisition and retention programs including appeals, regular giving, community fundraising, workplace giving and donor care communications. The role is also responsible for proactively sourcing leads for the bequest and major giving programs and for the management and development of the supporter database (Raiser’s Edge). 

 

Required Skills and Experience

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, fundraising and/or ADMA certification would be highly regarded
  • Demonstrable track record of success in fundraising through mass/direct marketing
  • Extensive experience deploying direct marketing competencies across a variety of markets
  • Strategic thinking ability
  • Outstanding understanding of data management, analysis and reporting
  • Strong planning, forecasting, financial and time management skills
  • Good copywriting skills
  • A wide and up-to-date knowledge of the fundraising field, latest developments, and quality suppliers
  • A good understanding of the principles of brand management
  • High level of competence with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

 

The Foundation

The Garvan Research Foundation is the marketing and fundraising arm of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and was established in 1981 to provide support to the Institute’s medical research programs.  Over the past five years, the Garvan Research Foundation’s income has grown from a fundraising base of 3.5 million to over 25 million in 2013.  The remarkable success of the Foundation’s awareness campaigns and fundraising activities allows Garvan’s scientists to continue contributing to knowledge which will ultimately lead to earlier diagnosis, better disease management, new therapies and prevention or cure of a range of diseases.
