The opportunity:

This opportunity is for a specialist research officer to support our health professional genomics education programs through researching, trialling and evaluating innovative approaches. The focus of this role will be on mainstreaming genomic practice throughout the healthcare system. It is a part-time role base on 3 days per week.

 

Key responsibilities of this position will be:

  • Build on existing research to identify and address educational needs in genomics practice for health professionals in Australia including GPs and allied health
  • Conduct reviews of relevant literature, obtain ethics approval for research and evaluation work, assist with collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Consult with stakeholders and members of key audiences to plan, deliver and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and programs.
  • Contribute to external and internal publications and reports, including preparation of grant applications and professional documentation produced by KCCG
  • Establish maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders in genetics and genomics educational research, both externally and internally.
  • Provide support and advice to genomics education and engagement research and evaluation projects.

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in BSc or BA/Honours/Master in a related discipline, and experience in genetics and education.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically review literature and related material to inform evidenced based program development, reports and publications
  • Experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both verbal and written
  • Possess excellent team working, time management and organisational skills

 

The Institute

The Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics (KCCG) was established by the Garvan Institute in 2012 to advance the use of genomic information in patient care. Clinical genomics is a rapidly evolving field focused on the use of genomic sequencing information in patient diagnosis and treatment. KCCG employs world-leading DNA analysis technology – including the Illumina HiSeq X-Ten, which can sequence more than 15,000 whole human genome sequences per year. KCCG currently employs staff from diverse disciplines – from software engineering and big data analytics to education and cancer genomics – to realise the clinical value of the genome.
