Research Officer – Intravital Microscopy of Biosensor Mice

Job No: GC201930
Location: Darlinghurst, NSW

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes, with over 600 scientists, students and support staff.  We pioneer study into the most widespread diseases affecting our community today, including cancer, neurodegenerative and mental diseases, disorders of the immune system, diabetes and obesity, osteoporosis and other skeletal disorders.

The Timpson Lab at the Garvan Institute is seeking a talented postdoctoral scientist with background in optics and/or microscopy and interest in interdisciplinary research. Our lab uses advanced intravital optical imaging techniques (such as FLIM-FRET, FRAP and anisotropy) and new fluorescent mouse models to study cancer invasion and metastasis. Our approach permits real-time imaging ranging from whole body tumour progression to single-cell invasion events, and helps us to understand how tumour cell (a) dissociation (b) invasion or (c) progression are controlled and how this is linked to the development of invasive or metastatic cancer.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and have an active role in developing and implementing imaging and analysis tools, presentation of results in the form of publications and international conference presentations, and grant applications.

For more information on our research see https://www.garvan.org.au/research/cancer/invasion-and-metastasis.

The position is full time with an initial three-year contract with strong prospects for renewal. The salary offered is $83,574 to $89,710 pa, depending on experience.
