This opportunity is for a talented and motivated Bioinformatics Research Officer to join Garvan’s Personalised Cancer Therapeutics group within the Cancer division, expanding our work on pancreatic cancer genomics. Researchers with a strong background in bioinformatics and an interest in cancer biology are welcome to apply for this position.

We are seeking an experienced to senior level Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics to conduct research that seeks to identify the biological, genetic and molecular processes that control pancreatic cancer progression and chemoresistance. Specifically, this position will be responsible for leading the analysis of single-cell genetic and genomic datasets.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • PhD in bioinformatics or related field
  • Excellent computational background, especially in the management of large data sets in Unix/Linux environment
  • High proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python)
  • A proven track record in publications, grants, software/tool development
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

The Offer

The position is based at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, a joint initiative of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and St. Vincent’s Hospital, located in inner city Darlinghurst.  The Kinghorn is rapidly developing expertise and a large capacity in cancer genomics and informatics, and will provide a supportive and exciting work environment. The Bioinformatics Research Officer will have an exciting opportunity to collaborate with the newly established Garvan Weizmann Centre for Cellular Genomics.
